Finally, I purchased Raja Musang and Thraka, one piece each from the stall, with a combined cost of RM44.
Raja Musang (猫山王) is really good; with strong taste, fleshy, smooth and creamy texture. Its position as king of durians is indisputable. I asked the durian seller whether there is any durian better than Raja Musang; the answer is negative. Raja Musang’s price could go up as high as RM28/kg and its lowest price so far was RM13/kg. The current price of RM15/kg is considered to be on the lower side. And I was told that the price won’t drop anymore for this season. That means this is a good time to try the durian.
Thraka (竹脚) is very fleshy. It tastes a little bit better than D24 for me. I would say that it is the most economical durian due to its abundant flesh. Its seeds are extremely small.
We like all the three types that we tried so far; D24, Thraka and of course, Raja Musang. However, we might go for Thraka more frequently in future, while getting Raja Musang and D24 occasionally.
I had been warned by Pure Faith that this durian eating adventure can be costly. I have burned more than RM100 this week for far, but I feel that what I and my family enjoyed is worth the money :-)

see, see..... a week ago, D24 the best!!!! now ranked 3rd liao...
wait! while Thai durians very consistant in quality - Msian durians have diversity in it... meaning the same strain of durian coming from different farms have different peculiar aspect to it's taste... eg.. ones from Penang are not the same as the ones from Pahang or Johore, etc, etc.....
So, now you can start hopping around from stall to stall.... soon you'll find at different stalls - that Thraka or Raja Musang taste better than the other.....
then, slowly you'll be an expert on durians... hahahahaaaaa
hmmmmm.... hopefully, the heat generated by the durians are doing your health a good turn....
If I were not mistaken, the ones that I had were from Pahang.
May be I should moved on to other stalls to learn more...
The heat? May be that is exactly what I need :-) But I think my wife and children already cannot "tahan' - with mouth ulcers :-(
I wish I am in KL now and taste the delicious fruit. In Kuching, there are not many "unknown" species of durians selling at rm 7 - rm 15 sebiji at this moment.
So, when is next durian season ? I must plan to fly to KLfor it.
Hi Seu Chuong,
I am not very sure. Perhaps I can ask the stall owner when when visit the durian stall again.
My pastors bought me many D24 durians, costing RM2 a piece. Though small, they tasted good.
He treated his relatives from Sarawak D24 a few days ago. They enjoyed it so much.
Really, it is difficult to get durians as good as what we have here.

there are several species of durian in sarawak which are not available at all in KL.....particularly the wild ones....with orange flesh. really sticky flesh and taste totally different from the other durians.
"orange flesh. really sticky flesh and taste totally different from the other durians." We had one in wild durian tree when I was young but it was cut down. It has been so long I didn't eat wild durian. Must look for it next trip back to Sarawak.
