I am fine today.
I went to attend an appointment in Asthma Clinic, UH this afternoon.
The lung specialist, Dr. Chua, said that my lung was normal after reviewing the high resolution CT scan that was done on 18 June. No evidence of Bronchiectasis and BO/BOOP.
I was asked to walk in the clinic for 6 minutes to see how much breathlessness I experienced. I didn’t have much difficulty with this amount of exercises.
Despite the fact that the CT scan showed a normal lung, my lung function did deteriorate greatly after the bone marrow transplant. One factor to enable the lung works well is the elasticity of the chest. Higher elasticity allows the lung to take in more air within a single breath. However, I feel that my lung is so restricted now and as a result, I always feel that I am short of air :-(
I could run a distance of 3.5km without much problem before, but now I even have difficulty to complete a distance of 1km.
I suspect the mechanical part of my body was affected by GVHD in which the tendon shortening is one of the evidences. This reduces the extensibility or elasticity of some parts of my body in which the chest cavity could be one. Similar to the wrist bending restriction that I described earlier, I also have difficulty to squat down.
I described these situations to Dr. Chua, but he said that as for as the lung is concerned, I am normal. With this he “graduated” me from the Asthma Clinic. I don’t have to come back for further follow-up anymore :-)
See you next post :-)
