Richard purchased 10 sky lanterns or Kongming Laterns (孔明灯) from Sibu with a cost of RM45. We flied all of them in one of the nights in the kampong. All of them except one took off successfully.
Kampong people seldom play sky lanterns. I believe most of the family members see the sky lanterns for the first time.
One of the lanterns landed in the fish pond of my cousin who stayed not far away from my old house. She said she saw a flying object in the sky initially but the light on the object was off and then she noticed something fell into her fish pond; something like a parachuter landed there. She was puzzled and became so worried that she was unable to sleep for the whole night :-(
