I am fine today. Continue to talk about my eyes…
The doctor suggested a treatment called SmartPlug. It is a procedure to obstruct tear ducts to prevent tear drain. More information regarding the treatment can be found here.
The procedure would cost RM800 for both eyes, but the outcome of it – whether it will improve my condition – is still unknown. I have to consult my haematologist first before deciding whether to proceed with this procedure.
The picture below shows the tears duct opening where the plug will be inserted.
Another treatment mentioned by the doctor is amniotic membrane transplantation where tissues from fetal membrane is processed and stitched onto the cornea. It serves as a form of biological dressing that promotes healing of wound. More information regarding the treatment can be found here.
When I asked about the cost of the transplantation, doctor said he last performed amniotic membrane transplantation in Kuala Lumpur General Hospital. And it is very rare to get patient like me in the private clinic. So he didn’t know the cost of the transplantation. However, he told me that the amniotic membrane is kept in University Science Malaysia (USM).
After seeing the eye specialist, I went to visit my friend Teh in UH. His blood counts show some improvement, but based on CT scan of his lung; doctor suspected that he is having Tuberculosis (TB) which is very infectious. So he was now isolated in the ward.
Please continue to pray for him.
See you next post :-)
