Day +1064 : Another lie exposed!

I am fine today.

My niece, Ngu Min Hie, scored 12A1s in her SPM exam last year. She applied for Jabatan Perkhidmatan Awam (JPA) or Public Service Department (PSD) scholarship to further her study oversea in a dentistry course. She was not selected, and she appealed but to no avail.

There were 2 students obtained 13A1s, and 9 obtained 12A1s in SMK Kuching High – the school that she studied. Based on the cabinet decision, those who scored 13A1s will automatically qualified for the scholarship, and our Prime Minister promised that most of the students who obtained 12A1s will also get the scholarship.

But there were 5, including my niece, among the 9 12A1s students, did not get the scholarship even after appeal. So the promise that most of the 12A1s student will get the scholarship is a lie.

Now come to the selection criteria for the scholarship; merit (20%), race (60%), Sabah & Sarawak (10%) and those from underprivileged group (10%).

From the published criteria above, we came to know that 20% of the scholarship will be given based on merit basis. JPA is offering 2000 places overseas scholarships this year, and this means that 400 places will be awarded to the top scorers.

According to my eldest sister, mother of Min Hie, there were 280 students scoring 12A1s and above; 230 students obtained 12A1s and 50 students obtained something better than 12A1s.

Since there were 400 places given based on merit basis, these 280 students who obtained 12A1s and above should automatically be given the scholarship, but surprisingly, this was not the case. There were 5 12A1s in SMK Kuching High along did not get the scholarship. Another conspiracy in action!

The statistics revealed that the government was telling lies again. It is a pity that we have a government who always making fool of its own people. Is this kind of government deserve our support? Don’t blame us come the next election!

See you next post :-)

They can't do that... because there are too many non-bumi in that category. It causes racial imbalances and beside they have unwritten rules and criteria. By the time they look at those 12A1, there is hardly anything left!

For your info, all my 3 daughters didn't get anything. They are all on FAMA scholarship... we have already figured that long ago. We can only depend on ourselves.

I agree with William. There are no lies or surprising conspiracies. There are just too many "unwritten rules and criteria" according to their own whim and fancy. I remember someone (couldn't remember exactly whether it was the minister or university's spokesman) said, besides academic result, co-curriculum activities were also being take into consideration for the selection. Ok, granted. But don't tell me that co-curriculum credentials take up 50% or more points for selection. Universities are for academics, not those who excel in co-curriculum but poor in academic!

That's why Malaysian has to accept the fact that not everyone can go for higher education with government's funding, especially the non-Malay.

The non-Malay must fight for their children's future. Vote BN out!

William & Phang,

Unwritten rules means no rules :-( That's why they created havoc repeatedly. It is very fortunate that William has the ability to offer FAMA scholarship to them. But many parents can't afford this.

When they said that 20% would be based on merit, then it should be regardless other factors such as races, co-corriculum activities, interview performance etc.. This should be purely based on result.

Only those 60% are subjected to racial consideration and other factors. And based on the statistics - 400 places should be given based on merit, and there were only 280 who scored 12A1s and above, why were they not selected was a puzzle to me.

Those co-curriculum and interview stuff introduces even more problem. With this, they can kick all out and say that you don't perform in the interview. So I see this as a tool to threat you at their mercy with "justification".

It is true and acceptable that no everyone should or can go for the higher education with government funding, but for those who really excel academically, the government should at least appreciate their performance by supporting them financially.

One thing I need to spell out is that unequal treatment we received should by no mean preventing us from moving forward - that is the
Chinese spirit. It equipped us with tougher will to stand firmly in the face of adversity :-)

Only a transplant will possibly fix the cancerous disease inflicting our government now :-) So your call for "Voting BN out!" is inline with my thinking :-)

Hi again. Ever thought of advising your nephew and niece to apply for a place to study at any polytechnics in Singapore since they achieved excellent results. I believe they will be more than willing to accept them. The Singapore government is knocking on doors of students who excelled in their studies. Give it a goal for there's nothing to loose. Good luck to your nephew and niece - brilliant brains.

Thanks for reminding me about this. I will inform them and see if they are interested.
