My wife made a chocolate moist cake yesterday. This was the first time ever she tried to make such type of cake. It was a steamed cake.
The main benefit of making a cake ourselves is that we could control the ingredients used especially the amount of sugar; halved the amount in this case - not too sweet, nor too plain. Apart from this, it is definitely more economical to make our own cake, and of course, in the process, experiencing the pleasure of cake making and sense of satisfaction :-)
The main purpose of making the cake was to share it with the children. For your information, the children in our church are having a mini-party every Sunday where they share with one another all sorts of foods. As parents, we must make sure that they bring along foods so that they can learn to share.
