The student council organized a birthday party for sister Pik Lan after the graduating student dinner on Wednesday. As I mentioned before, she was the one who hosted the dinner. We used to address Pik Lan big sister (大姐). For your information, it is our practice in the seminary to call the chairman and deputy chairman of student council big brother(大哥) and big sister respectively.
It is not a common practice to celebrate birthday for a student formally, so this birthday party has its special intention - supporting Pik Lan in her fight against breast cancer.
Pik Lan was diagnosed with breast cancer a few months ago. Initially, she was reported to be in stage 2 of the breast cancer but later doctor adjusted it to stage 4. The first round of chemotherapy attempt failed, and the cancer has now spread to the liver and lung. She is now switched to a new medical centre to start a new round of chemotherapy. In addition to the chemotherapy, she is also treated with a new expensive monoclonal antibody called Herceptin. The cost of Herception along cost more than RM7000 in three weeks, and the treatment will last for three years.
Pik Lan is supposed to graduate this year. She has to delay her study due to cancer treatment. She is high in her spirit due to her faith in Christ despite the failure of the first treatment.
