Day +833 : A day trip to Tanjung Sepat (3)

I am fine today. Continue from yesterday...

Our next stop was a Longan farm, but unfortunately this was not the Longan season yet, so we didn't get a chance to eat fresh Longan. The farmer there told us that we should visit the farm in December if we woud like to eat Longan fresh from the tree.

However, apart from Longan, the farm also produces many other fruits such banana and pineapple.

Pineapples. Smaller one on the lower shelf is extremely sweet and it cost RM2.5 per piece. The one on the top shelf is bigger and cost RM4 per piece, but taste quite sour :-( But after eating the Miracle Fruit, it sure taste very sweet too :-)

After visiting the Longan farm, we visited GanoFarm which cultivate various types of mushrooms including LingZhi.

This is how LingZhi, the king of herbs, is cultivated A zoom in view. It tastes very bitter, thus we cannot eat it as vegetable like other mushrooms.

Day +832 : A day trip to Tanjung Sepat (2)

I am fine today. Continue from yesterday...

After visiting the biscuit factory, we visited Yong Sheng Dragon Fruit Farm. Miracle Fruit (神奇果)
Miracle Fruit Plant. Not very big and can be grown in a flower pot.
Miracle Fruit carries a scientific name Synsepalum dulcificum. It is very special becuase after eating it for, all sour and bitter foods will taste sweet :-) We tried the fruit in the farm and a few minutes after, lemon and lime taste as sweet as honey :-)

"The berry contains an active glycoprotein molecule, with some trailing carbohydrate chains, called miraculin. When the fleshy part of the fruit is eaten, this molecule binds to the tongue's taste buds, causing bitter and sour foods to taste sweet. While the exact cause for this change is unknown, one hypothesis is that the effect may be caused if miraculin works by distorting the shape of sweetness receptors "so that they become responsive to acids, instead of sugar and other sweet things." This effect lasts between thirty minutes and two hours."

I purchased a few plants back. The big one which alreay starts to bear fruit cost RM50 and the small one cost RM20.

Day +831 : A day trip to Tanjung Sepat (1)

I am fine today.

Last Saturday, our church organized a one day trip to Tanjung Sepak for the senior cell group members. My mother-in-law, who is a member of the cell group, also joined the trip.

Since Tanjung Sepak is well known for its seafood, and I am well known for my gluttony(贪吃), the organizer gave me special privilege to join the trip even though I am not senior enough to attend the cell group, so that I could enjoy the fresh and delicious seafood there :-)

Together with us were a visiting senior pastor and his wife. We visited many places on the way to Tanjung Sepak; a very interesting trip. It is a pity that my wife and the children couldn’t join the trip this time because Adriel needed to perform in her kindergarten annual concert and Daniel had to attended tuition class in school.

The farmer there told us that December will be the Longan season when we can get fresh and cheap Longan. Most probably I will organize a family outing, bringing my wife and children for the same trip during the year end school holiday.

The biscuit factor owner is a Foochow, he was very excited when he knew that some of us are Foochow. And he reminded us to inform him earlier next trip so that he could prepare some biscuits for us :-)

Day +830 : Combined Cell Group Potluck Dinner

I am fine today.


Our church organized a combined cell group potluck dinner last night. Many church members attended the dinner. We also welcome a senior pastor and his wife who visited us from Australia at the dinner.
