Day +1978 : Daniel's Level 1 Saxophone Exam

I am fine today.

Daniel sat for his first ever saxophone exam this morning. The exam was held at the Club, Bukit Utama. His teacher arranged him to sit for performance exam. Normally, student has to bring CD player to play the accompaniment music while playing, but Daniel is blessed to have a great mother who play piano so well :-) So he got life accompaniment during the exam.

There were two foreign examiners accessing the performance, something which is very rare. My wife said for all the piano exams that she sat for, there was only one examiner.

When it was Daniel's term, my wife was blocked from entering the hall as the lady who manage the exam didn't expect my wife is playing the accompaniment music. I guess it is quite rare for student to have life accompaniment. I saw students carry CD player for the purpose.

Though my wife doesn't play saxophone, she taught Daniel how to interpret the pieces that he played. There are two main aspects of music that a performer must master - the technique and the interpretation, and both of them are equal important. My wife is good in the interpretation, and she always teach us how to interpret the pieces :-)

So was your wife allowed to go into the exam hall when she explained that she'll be playing the piano as live accompaniment?

Yes, of course :-) I listened outside the hall. The presentation was done quite well except there was a mistake on Daniel's part due to nervous. Anyway, he managed to continue the performance. The comment from the examiner was "continue the good work" :-)
