Heng Yew was admitted for a course in Computer Engineering and Communication in UPM. He needs to register today. Coincidently his brother, Heng Chiek, is still having vacation in Sarawak, so I have to send him to UPM for registration.
He did the registration in the afternoon after the church service. It is compulsory for the first year student to stay in the residential college and the college that was assigned to him is KK10 - a male college.
I found out from the student list on the notice board that there are 212 new students admitted to the college and among them, about 93 are Chinese. This means that over 40% of new student are Chinese. I also studied in UPM but at that time - almost 20 years ago - the percentage of Chinese students were way below 40%.
The room provided is very basic with concrete floor. The facilities provided are a bed with mattress, an iron cupboard and a study table. City children might feel uncomfortable staying in the room but I believe a kampong boy like Heng Yew shouldn't have any problem with it.
We wish Heng Yew a big success in his study!
