Day +794 : In the home village

I am fine today.

The flight to Sibu was very punctual yesterday. The plane touched down Sibu airport just before 8:00pm, about 10 minutes earlier than the scheduled arrival time.

We had dinner at my sister house. She cooked delicious chicken soup for us :-) The chicken here is always taste better than the KL’s, and of course they are most expensive. The bald head chicken (光头鸡), which is something equivalent to the garden chicken (菜园鸡) here, cost RM15 per kg. The famous kampong chicken here cost about RM25kg per kg now :-( It used to cost RM17 to RM18 only.

I had a sweet soursop as dessert after the dinner. The fruit was given by my sister’s next-door neighbour. It was harvested from the soursop tree planted at the backyard of the neigbour’s house. Once my sister told her neighbour that I like to eat soursop very much (in fact, not only soursop, I like to eat almost everything very much :-)), and knowing that I am coming back from KL, this good neighbour gave this ripen-on-tree soursop to me :-)

The soursop

I had a big bowl of Kampua Mee (干盘面) as my breakfast in Sibu before going back to my home village, Sg. Mador.

In the afternoon, my niece (my second brother’s daughter) cooked duck for me. This duck was very special because it was reared by her and funded by fourth sister – the one that supplied me free lunch and free juice every working days. And I was in charge of eating :-)

The duck drumstick
A zoom-in view, extremely delicious. Kampong duck is very different :-)

I also had this fried bamboo shoot with tomato sauce. My mother used to cook this dish during Chinese New Year

In the evening, my third sister (stem cell donour) invited me for a dinner in her house. Knowing that I am a gluttonous person, she prepared many dishes for me :-)

The home reared kampong chicken which had been reared for one year.
The chicken meat
Canned corn
Prawns in tomato sauce. Very fresh. My sister said she purchased them from fisherman at the Bintangor's jetty. A zoom-in view
Stewed pork trotter by my brother-in-law. Very delicious :-)
Mixed vegetable
Steam fish
And finally, Siew Mai
I can say most of the dishes more delicious than what we can get from restaurant :-)

See you next post :-)

Day +793 : Back to Sarawak

I am fine today.

My mother-in-law and I are going back to Sibu, Sarawak this evening. Our flight is supposed to be at 11:00am but AirAsia cancelled the flight. So we are forced to take the next flight at 6:15pm .

According to AirAsia, the cancellation of flight did not qualified us for a RM200 compensational coupon because they already informed us more than 24 hours before the changes :-(

Anway, I am still a faithful AirAsia customer. Don’t believe? See the yet to travel itineraries that I have with AirAsia; some of them belong to others that purchased the ticket through me, but please don’t be mistakenly think that I am a AirAsia agent :-)

We will be staying overnight at my second sister, Sieh Kiong’s (Nga Ming’s mother) house. I will be going back to my home village, Sungei Mador, Bintangor while my mother-in-law going back to Sarikei tomorrow.

As I mentioned before, the purpose of the trip is to visit my mother and at the same time to attend my wife’s step sister’s wedding dinner which will be held at Sarawak on Sunday evening.

I will be back to KL on next Monday.

See you next post :-)

Day +790: A Kuala Selangor Trip (1)

I am fine today.

Our church celebrated 11th anniversary last Sunday. We organized a trip to Kuala Selangor as part of the anniversary celebration. There were more than 50 church members joined the trip.

As it trains almost every afternoon, we prayed very hard for good weather. And God listened to our prayer. The weather on the day was extraordinary good :-) A church member told me that she saw a lot more fireflies this time because the weather was good.

We started our journey at 2:00pm from Puchong and reached Kuala Selangor at about 4:00pm. The trip to Kuala Selangor would normally take less than one and half hour. It took us so long to reach there because we stopped here and there along the way; refilling petrol, eating Cempedak etc.

We first visited Bukit Melawati where we saw a light house, cannons, museum and of course, a lot of friendly monkeys. After that, we proceed to Nature Park nearby. However, no one had extra strength to enter the nature park after hearing that it took about at least one hour to round the park. Many of us brought along young children, and we all know that when they are tired, they just simply jumped onto the parents. But when the parents are tired, who can they jump on to?

After visiting the nature park, we went for dinner at Firefly Park Restaurant at the Firefly Park Resort. The food was disappointing; very few and not so delicious. But frankly speaking, we also cannot expect much as we paid RM150 only per table.

After the dinner, we boarded the motor boat at the same place to view fireflies. Since the weather was good, we see quite a lot of fireflies on the mangrove trees along the Kuala Selangor river bank. It was just like we had many natural Christmas trees along the river bank decorated with small flashing bulbs.

Tourists will be able “to listen to the spectacular symphonic harmony of these fireflies while viewing their luminous flashes of light that is truly a magnificent sight to the eyes of the beholder.” This is what is written in the Firefly Park Resort’s brochure.

Someone told me that the population of firefly is declining. We only see half the number of fireflies compared to what one could see ten years ago. So if you would like to experience this natural wonder, be quick!

To be continued and see you next post :-)

Day +789 : A dinner with Hui Na

I am fine today.

We had a dinner with my third sister’s (my stem cells donor) daughter, Hui Na, this evening at Cheong Wah Restaurant (中华酒楼), Pusat Bandar Puchong.

Hui Na is doing her Bacelor Pendidikan (Sains Rumahtangga) or Bachelor of Education (Home Science) in Universiti Putra Malaya (UPM). I mentioned about this in my blog Day +714 : Congratulation Hui Na!

As UPM is not very far from my house, she came to stay with us during some weekends. This is the first time we managed to treat her a dinner :-)

Group photo: Back row from left - Hui Na, Heng Chiek (Eldest brother's son), Min Hui(Eldest sister's son), Chih Yung(Hui Na's brother). Front row - the right most one is Ee Ping, Hui Na's universitymate, also from Bintangor. Including the maid, we had 13 people enjoying the dinner.
The first dish - Dong Po Pork(东坡肉). Everyone liked this dish - even Aaron and Adriel. They ate a lot of rice because of this dish :-) A dish highly recommended.

Foochow fish ball soup. These fish balls came with stuffing.
Clay pot bean curd
