Day +1252 : Sarawak Holiday – Bugs (1)

I am fine today.

There are many bugs in the kampong. Most of them are small and many of them are very beautiful. I used my digital camera with macro mode to capture some of them.

In fact I should capture more but it was very unfortunate that I was sick the second week of the holiday.

May be I should plan a trip back just for the bugs in future :-) If you have a good camera and would like to come alone, do let me know:-)

Adriel was stung by this type of bee, attracted to the house by light

Flies

Plenty of this type of mosquitoes in the house - big and fat but not Aedes
More bugs to come…

Day +1251 : Sarawak Holiday – back to Puchong

I am fine today.

We boarded AirAsia 8:55pm flight from Sibu and reached LCCT at 10:45pm. The flight was very punctual :-)

We reached home at about 12:00am on two airport taxis costing RM64 each. Should the flight was delayed and we had to board the taxis after 12:00am, there will be a surcharge of 50% of the normal fare. I am very happy that the flight was so punctual this time.

We didn’t bring many goodies back from Sarawak this time as I am not fully recovered from flu yet. I told my sisters that I would be very happy if I can bring myself back to KL smoothly this time. Anyway, we had eaten enough home town delicacies while over there :-)

I thank God for a wonderful holiday :-)

Day +1250 : Sarawak Holiday – Family lunch

I am fine today.

We attended the church service in the morning and went for lunch at Min Hua Restaurant (民华冷气酒家) in Bintangor town.

There were about 30 family members and relatives joining the lunch. We ordered 3 tables costing RM250 each. It used to be as low as RM180.

Given the cheap price, we really can’t compare the quality of the dishes with those offered in restaurants here. Since the main purpose of the lunch is to allow family members and relatives to get together, the quality of food is secondary :-)

Day +1249 : Sarawak Holiday – Richard’s family joins us in the kampong

I am fine today.

I am getting much better today :-) No more fever with reduced cough.

Richard’s family reached here in the afternoon. He went to KK, Sabah on 25 Nov, and then went to Kuching for a few days before coming here.

His traveling itinerary was fixed long time ago to take into the advantage of the zero fare flight. But AirAsia cancelled the flight between KK to Sibu few months later after the booking. So he rearranged his traveling points to fly from KK – Kuching – Sibu rather than the original plan KK – Sibu – Kuching.

Richard was told that the flight from KK to Kuching was at 4:00pm but when he reached the airport, the flight was departed two hours ago :-( It was found out later that the customer service told him the time wrongly. Fortunately, all conversation was recorded in their customer support system; else AirAsia could simply said that it was Richard who heard wrongly.

In order to get the family from KK to Kuching on the same day, AirAsia flew them to KL first and then back to Kuching, wasting many hours to unnecessary flight. It would be a gain for those who like to fly – just to be in the air - but I doubt any one of the family would like to do this.

Day +1248 : Sarawak Holiday – Erythromycin doesn’t work this time :-(

I am fine today.

I still have fever today. This indicates that the antibiotic, Erythromycin, that I am taking since Monday doesn’t work for me this time.

I need to have something stronger and the obvious choice is Augmentin – the strongest oral antibiotic. But where can I get it? Two options: purchase it from a pharmacy store in Sibu or get it from Bintangor clinic. Of course the later is more economical – shorter distance and need to pay RM1 only :-)

So my third sister brought me to the clinic in the afternoon. The HA (Health Assistant) who saw me would like to prescribe me a stronger antibiotic called Panglobe, but it is not as strong as Augmentin. Only a doctor could prescribe Augmentin in the clinic. My sister told the HA that any antibiotic other than Augmentin might not work for me as I am a post bone marrow transplant patient. Fortunately, the HA agreed to refer me to the doctor.

The doctor prescribed me a seven day course of 625mg Augmentin in the end :-)

With this antibiotic, the flu and cough should be cleared within a few days time; else the next course of treatment is to be admitted to hospital to have intravenous antibiotic :-(

Day +1247 : Sarawak Holiday – the flu worsens

I am fine today.

I went to Sibu to do some work this morning. I was very tired halfway and worst still, the fever set in.

When I reached my 2nd sister house in Sibu, I was bedridden. I took Panadols and cough syrup first immediately. My two nieces who were in my second sister house helped to do a traditional massage to “chase away” the flu. I felt better after sweating but I was very sleepy due to the cough syrup.

My appetite drops almost to none. I would like to gain some weight through this holiday but with this flu, I might not be able to achieve this :-(

Day +1246 : Sarawak Holiday – seafood day :-)

I am fine today.

Today is my niece’s, Siew Na, husband holiday. He is a professional cook working in a restaurant in Sibu. I asked him to buy crabs, prawns and clams for us today.

He cooked the crabs and prawns. We consumed 2kg of prawns and 2kg of crabs for lunch and dinner. The cost is less than RM100 but if we were to order this amount from restaurant, it might cost about over RM250.

The dishes that he prepared were extremely good :-)

Day +1245 : Sarawak Holiday – I have two spare engines :-)

I am fine today.

Adriel and Aaron always like me to fetch them on motorbikes. The kampong house has 4 motorbikes. In the evening, three of them were being used and there left the last one – the oldest one – for me to fetch the two children.

First round was perfectly fine, but when it came to second round, the old motorbikes ran out of petrol halfway :-( How are we going to bring the motorbike home? I had an idea – asking the two children to push the motorbike home :-)

They were very excited to be the “engine”. While I was riding the motorbike with Adriel pushing it from behind, Aaron was chasing after us and shouted, “It is my turn, it is my turn, let me push!”

“Hai… So tired…” Adriel said while gasping some time later.

With these two spare engines, I finally rode the motorbike back.

I was told by my niece later that in fact there is a switch on the motorbike that turn on the spare petrol. I couldn’t remember this as it had been such a long time I didn’t use motorbike.

Four motorbikes - both new and old ones
See how the "spare engines" work
