Day +674 : Happy birthday to me

I am fine today.

My colleagues are very enthusiastic in organizing birthday party recently. They celebrate birthday for every staffs. Since my birthday is on the Sunday, 11 May 2008, they decided to celebrate it today.

The main activity of the celebration is eating – the lunch and the cake. We went to Kenny Rogers Roasters in IOI mall for the lunch.

It is a tradition that the non-birthday colleagues will sponsor the meal and cake. In other words, the one who is celebrating the birthday has the advantage of having free meal :-) Considering this advantage, I “warned” my colleagues that I still have 2 birthdays to celebrate this year; my bone marrow transplant birthday on 5 July and my real birthday on 22 November :-) You can read the detail here : http://david-healed.blogspot.com/2007/07/day-366-three-birthdays-i-celebrate.html

No one dare to response to this warning :-)

The restaurant that claim to have the world's greatest chicken - what do you think? I thought the best chicken is those "organic athelic chicken" from my kampong :-)

Day +673 : Want to master Chinese martial arts (Kung Fu)? This noodle might help

I am fine today.

There is a restaurant called Restoran Kung Fu Pan Mee at 11, Jalan Kenari 2, Bandar Puchong Jaya. The restaurant serves many types of Pan Mee(板面).

We visited the restaurant a number of times because Daniel likes the Mee very much. Perhaps another reason that makes the restaurant so attractive to us is that its name contains the word Kung Fu(功夫). We hope that by eating the Kung Fu Pan Mee, we will gain some Kung Fu subconsciously, so that we can at least protect ourselves in any untoward circumstances.

The restaurant The ice milo - big cup
Herbal tea(凉茶)
Ba Wong Mee ( 招牌霸王功夫板面)
Thick mee(传统功夫粗面)

Hand tear mee(传统功夫面粉糕)

Another type - don't know the name
First visit - with Heng Yew (Heng Chiek's brother)

Day +672 : Vision-K Vitamin (2)

I am fine today. Continue from yesterday…

I have a tip for you to handle the direct-sale “specialists” who always show you a lot of testimonies to guarantee that their products would work. Just tell them to give you the product in advance for you to consume for a few months or until the expected result is achieved. If the product really works as they claimed, than you pay them double the original price. It still worth to pay them double if it really works as claimed considering the high medical cost and the harmful effect of artificial drugs. But if the product doesn’t work as claimed; we don’t need to pay them anything.

This arrangement provides a good opportunity for the “specialist” to prove that their product is working and at the same time for them to achieve double reward.

If you propose this to them, I believe most of the “specialist” will “run away” from you because they know that it is very unlikely that the product will work as what they claimed. In order to avoid losing money because the product does not work, the best way is to “escape” from a tough customer like you.

Any direct-sale agent who has full confident in their product should accept the proposal; if not, they are bluffing :-)

Day +671 : Vision-K Vitamin (1)

I am fine today.

I would like to tell a story from my brother Richard.

Can Vision-K vitamin cure the lazy eye?? If you have any disease that can’t be handled by your doctor, don’t worry; look for direct-sale "specialists". They definitely have some magic weapons(法宝) that fit all your needs.

Dennis (Richard’s eldest son) was diagnosed with lazy eye about 5 months ago. He is now under intensive treatment in which he needs to do patching exercise for 6 hours a day. He might need to do the exercise as long as one year to correct the problem.

A direct-sale agent convinced my wife to purchase a product which the agent claimed to be able to cure lazy eye. And not only lazy eye that it can cure, it is also an effective remedy for Astigmatism(san guan) and short-sightedness. Don’t believe? The agent will prove the effectiveness of the product with many real testimonies. A bottle of the product costs RM126.

Lazy eye happens because the muscle of one of the eyes fails to function properly. However, one still can have quite good vision through the other eye which functions well. So far the only way to train the muscle of the problematic eye is to patch the “good” eye, forcing the brain to send the signal to the lazy eye. This will force the lazy eye to become “hardworking” eye after a period of consistent eye patching exercise.

I am very doubtful that this Vision-K vitamin is able to force the brain to send signal to the lazy eye. If this is indeed the case, maybe you can consult the direct-sale “specialist” to prescript the product for the lazy one (may be you or your children) who are lazy to work, to study, to do homework, to attend cell group… After that, every parts of your body will be very hardworking :-)

Day +670 : I wish every day is Sunday

I am fine today.

“Baba, today is Sunday! You see,” Adriel held my hand and led me to the car porch to see the bright sunlight in the Saturday morning.

Adriel will be 4 years old in 3 months time. She likes to go to church. “What day is today?” is the question that she asks regularly first thing in the morning. I told her that we would go to the church every Sunday. Since she likes to go the church so much, she wishes everyday is Sunday.

I believe she got an idea suddenly on that morning that whenever she sees the sun in the sky, the day must be Sunday :-) And she can go to the church.

I also wish that what she think is true :-) What about you?

See you next post :-)

Day +669 : A baptism ceremony and a one year anniversary thanksgiving service

I am fine today.

“David, can you fry 3 packs of Beehon for the church tomorrow?” Jessie called yesterday morning.

Our church is having a baptism ceremony this morning. The church would like to prepare a simple lunch for members after the event. Jessie is always the one who organize the eating session of our church.

Instead of 3 packs of Beehon, I offered to fry 4 packs for the church. It was also very fortunate that I was in the wet market when Jessie called so that I can shop for the ingredients needed for the fried Beehon all together:-)

I spent about an hour to complete frying 4 packs of Beehon. It took so long because I could only fry one pack at a time. If I have a bigger wok, I would fried all four at once :-) Anway, I enjoy frying.

However, I must mention that the tedious "slicing" and "chopping" work in preparing the ingredients had been done by my mother-in-law and maid. Certainly, I do not like this type of work. So I must thank for their help.

The Beehon - enough for 40 forty person Zoom in view
Group photo of those who received the baptism and the church committee members. Pastor Lui (next to me, from Hong Kong) conduct the baptism. Lunch was served after the service
My wife and I, together with a few church members went to attend a church one year anniversary thanksgiving service in the afternoon.

The church was planted by a preacher couple one year ago. It was started from “zero” – without any group of existing Christians participating in the church in the beginning.

It needs strong faith in God to plant the church in this manner. It is very tough but God grace is always with them. May God bless their ministry abundantly!

Day +668 : A lunch with former staffs

I am fine today.

Three former staffs were kind enough to treat me a lunch this afternoon at Restoran Leong Ya(梁雅纸包鸡) at 95, Jalan Kenari 23, Bandar Puchong Jaya. The restaurant is famous for Yong Tau Foo(酿豆腐) and paper wrapped chicken(纸包鸡).

Two of the staffs left the company before I was sick and one of them left about one year ago, when I was back to office after bone marrow transplant. They are faithful reader of my blog; one of them told me that he reads my blog every morning before going to work :-)

Even though we didn’t meet every day, they know quite clearly what happen to me through this blog. And I believe they found out that I am a gluttonous person from this blog too. That is why they invited me for a lunch this afternoon, I guess :-)

I appreciate their kindness and friendship :-)

A photo with the staffs - one of them left already

Let me now share with you the dishes that we had this afternoon.

In the evening, we attended a wedding dinner of the son of a church member. This church member is a Foochow like me. He arranged the dinner to be held in a restaurant that specializes in Foochow food :-)
